It's a Gift

Today I thought I would share something a bit different with you, this is a gift that I made for someone recently, a ribbon embroidered face cloth.

Ribbon Embroidered Face Cloth

To create this I used Penny Black stamp Clusters 3633K and two different widths of satin ribbon.

To begin I stamped the image onto the facecloth using Versacraft ink (to set the ink, I ironed the facecloth before adding the ribbon).

Stamping the Facecloth

I then cut strips of thin green satin ribbon for the stem and leaves and stitched onto the face cloth using a sewing machine and the zig zag stitch.

Stitching the stems

Then thread a wool needle with the pink ribbon and stitch the petals, using the thicker ribbon for the lower petals and the thinner ribbon for the upper petals.  Add Liquid pearls to the ends to add extra dimension to finish.

Here is the finished product.

I love how versatile Penny Black stamps can be, I have many more gift ideas that I hope to be able to share with you over the coming months.

May I wish you all a happy new year.

  1. What a fabulous use of the stamp Cathy - I thought you had used a closed chain stitch to make the petals - is the liquid pearls wear and waterproof?

    1. Maxine, yes they are waterproof, I put them on a tee shirt years ago that I wash in the machine and they are still there to this day!

  3. Brilliant new way to use stamps AND my sewing machine! The flowers are so pretty. That would be my question too about the liquid pearls or would this be for decoration only?

    1. Penny, I put liquid pearls on a tee shirt years ago and it gets thrown in the washing machine all the time and the pearls survive!
